The State Board of Equalization (SBE) just announced that retailers from Lake Tahoe to the San Francisco Bay Area, and from the coastal cities of Southern California to Lake Perris, will be receiving letters from the SBE notifying them about upcoming visits from Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program (SCOP) teams.
The SCOP visits are intended to educate retailers about properly reporting sales and use tax, increase compliance with tax laws, and maintain outreach efforts to assure taxpayers that the state’s tax system is fair and equal for all Californians. As such, eight different SCOP teams will be conducting door-to-door, in-person visits to the zip codes listed below.
Any non-residential business listed in one of these zip codes should be ready. Since 2008, SCOP has visited 381,800 businesses and while nearly 98 percent of those businesses were operating with correct permits, some have been caught with underpaying their taxes and fees, which has accounted for more than $2 billion in uncollected taxes.
As part of our commitment to add value to your business, 3dcart customers can receive a free and confidential sales tax compliance risk assessment to help identify areas of potential risk and/or opportunities to become more efficient. Please contact Gabriell Arends (email@example.com), Channel Development Manager at Avalara, to learn more or to have an assessment scheduled.
